WA Museum Boola Bardip

A textile piece commissioned by the WA Museum Boola Bardip for the Wild Life permanent exhibition space.

The whirling energy of the Bush Parrot Banksia (Banksia sessilis) provided a unique inspiration to draw upon and abstract into an illustrative pattern. The wedged-shaped leaves, matchstick buds and spiking flowerhead burst to life in a rhythm that naturally abstracts into a spirited, courageous design.

The artwork attempts to capture a feeling of floral celebration as the Banksia dances across the composition. It asks the viewer to embrace the wonder and play found in the carnival of nature around us.
